Zarko Micin elected new Novi Sad mayor

NOVI SAD - The Novi Sad City Assembly elected Zarko Micin new mayor of Novi Sad on Monday.

All 45 city assembly members voted in favour of Micin, while the opposition took no part in the session.

Djuradj Jaksic, who was deputy to former mayor Milan Djuric, was again elected deputy mayor and the new city government was elected as well.

In an address before the secret vote, Micin said checks on all buildings that were property of the city, as well as continuing the capital projects launched by Djuric, would be a priority.

"Today is a day of a commitment, we have a lot to do for Novi Sad. The (November 1 railway station) tragedy that happened in Novi Sad is a huge one, I will request that the construction inspectorate checks all facilities that are property of the city and where larger numbers of people are gathering. I will do everything to ensure a tragedy like that never happens to us again - that is my priority," Micin said.
