BELGRADE - The head of the Serbian government Office for Kosovo-Metohija Petar Petkovic met on Friday in Budapest with Marton Ugrosdy, deputy state secretary in the office of the Hungarian PM's political director, to discuss the political and security situation and the difficult position of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija.
Petkovic expressed special gratitude for the support provided to Serbia by Hungarian PM Viktor Orban and his entire government, and noted that excellent ties between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Orban, as well as understanding on many substantial issues, had paved the way for close overall ties between the two countries and the two peoples, the Office for Kosovo-Metohija said in a statement.
"Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija view Hungary with a great feeling of friendship, trust and gratitude, especially in view of the significant contribution of Hungarian troops to the Kfor peacekeeping mission," Petkovic noted.
He informed Ugrosdy in detail of all unlawful, unilateral and escalatory moves by Pristina aimed against the Serbs in the province, as well as of violations of their fundamental human and political rights.
Today, more than ever before, it is important to build and safeguard peace and economic stability and to solidify prosperity in the region through joint efforts, Petkovic said.
The meeting was also attended by Serbian Ambassador to Hungary Aleksandra Djurovic.
