BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said at a government session on Tuesday he expected Albin Kurti's regime in Pristina to blame the Serbs for a recent attack on the Ibar-Lepenac canal in Kosovo-Metohija to stop Srpska lista from running in the upcoming elections in the province.
Srpska lista is a political party of Kosovo-Metohija Serbs.
"In Kosovo-Metohija, our people are waging a difficult battle to survive and preserve their political legitimacy, and what I can tell you from my contacts and everything the PM and I have also been able to obtain from our intelligence agencies, is that, in Kosovo-Metohija, we expect Kurti's regime to declare the Serbs guilty in the coming days without any serious material evidence whatsoever," Vucic told the government ministers.
He said that, before KFOR and EULEX had arrived on the scene to investigate the attack, ethnic Albanians had intentionally contaminated the site of a blast that damaged the canal, with a clear political goal.
"They will not make a big fuss about that, and they cannot because they know they have nothing, but the purpose and the objective is to attempt to ban, in any possible way, Srpska lista from running in the upcoming elections, because that will be supported, above all, by the outgoing US administration as they are putting EU member states under enormous pressure to start lifting measures against Pristina," Vucic said.
"Above all, they want that in order to enable Kurti to score another victory and continue to make it impossible for the Serbs to survive in Serbia's southern province," Vucic said.
He said that would be the most important reason for his visit to Brussels on Wednesday.
"I will try to point out to the people in Europe what is really going on in Kosovo-Metohija," Vucic added.
