Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Dec. 19 that he had “put the country on its feet again” and “would not even think of running away from the scumbags who have plundered and privatized everything in Serbia.”

Asked to comment on opposition representatives’ statements that the only solution to the ongoing protests and blockades across the country would be to follow the example of toppled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and leave the country, Vucic said he was not afraid of “the worst crooks and criminals such as (Goran) Jesic, (Dragan) Djilas, (Miroslav) Aleksic, (Srdjan) Milivojevic.”

“History has seen situations when the worst dregs of society would come to the surface amid all sorts of developments. When they think the time has come for them to be there. They want me, who have put Serbia back on its feet and who, unlike them, do not beat women, to run away from those who have destroyed this country? No, that will never happen,” Vucic told reporters in Brussels, where he will attend the European People’s Party summit on the Western Balkans.

Throughout its history, Serbia, according to Vucic, has never been “stronger or more developed” than it is today.

He also accused the opposition of exploiting children for their own political gain.
