Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Dec. 5 that Hungary will be scheduling a new meeting for next week regarding Cluster Three of Serbia’s accession negotiations with the EU, adding that it is an extremely good thing that Germany fully supports this step.
“A thank you to them if they open Cluster Three. And a thank you if they don’t. It’s no problem. We will work to become the fastest growing economy in all of Europe next year,” Vucic told the RTS public service following the Dec. 4 meeting where, for the third time, the ambassadors of EU countries failed to greenlight the opening of the next cluster in Serbia-EU talks.
The Dec. 4 meeting included eight countries who voted against Hungary’s motion for opening Serbia’s third cluster of negotiating chapters: the Baltic states, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, Croatia and Bulgaria.
“It is an extremely good thing that Germany is absolutely in favor of opening Cluster Three,” Vucic said and also thanked France and Italy, which, too, have supported the step and continue to do so.
“Our job is to continue fighting, and to talk with all of them,” concluded Vucic, who is currently on visit to Switzerland.
