NOVI SAD - Novi Sad Mayor Milan Djuric won a no-confidence vote in the city assembly on Tuesday.
Forty-eight of 75 assembly members in attendance backed Djuric, 25 voted in favour of a motion to relieve him of his duties and one ballot was invalid.
The assembly session was called at the request of opposition parties that blamed Djuric for the tragic November 1 railway station accident in Novi Sad.
A debate on the motion was obstructed by the opposition and there were scuffles during the secret vote.
During the session, a group of people who had gathered outside the City Hall following an appeal by the opposition attempted to break into the building amid pushing and scuffles but was pushed back by police.
Most of the protesters dispersed after the session.
