During the period around New Year's Eve, more than 140,000 guests stayed in Serbia, which is 18 percent more than at the same time last year, State Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Youth Uros Kandic said on Jan. 8.
He told public broadcaster RTS that foreign guests accounted for the majority of that number between Dec. 28 and Jan. 6, as the e-Turista (e-Tourist) system had registered 80,000 foreign tourists, which was almost 13 percent more than during last year's holiday period.
Among foreign tourists, he stressed, the majority were from nearly all the neighboring countries, primarily Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Romania.
According to Kandic, 2024 saw a record 4.4 million tourist arrivals, 5.2 percent more than in 2023, and there were some 2.4 million foreign guests, which is 11 percent more than the year before.
