Gathering in Front of Novi Sad Court, People Demand Release of Arrested at Protest

Several hundred people gathered in front of the court in Novi Sad on Nov. 7, demanding the release of those arrested during the protest that took place in the city because of the death of 14 people in the collapse of the concrete canopy at the Railway Station.

The gathered people held banners reading “Freedom for the arrested” and blew whistles, according to BETA’s reporter. BETA has learned that the former vice-premier of the Vojvodina government, Goran Jesic, and an activist of the “SviCe” (Dawning) movement, Ivan Bjelic, had been brought before the prosecutor.

Opposition leaders and MPs Marinika Tepic, Borislav Novakovic, Janko Veselinovic, Maja Mrnustik and Srdjan Milivojevic, were also present. Goran Jesic is suspected of attacking an officer on duty, which he has denied. He stated earlier that, at the end of the protest in Novi Sad on Nov. 5, he attempted to defend a young man who was being attacked by unknown people.
