Eleven people have been arrested over the Novi Sad Railway Station collapse which claimed 15 lives and left two victims critically injured, the city’s High Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Nov. 21.

The individuals taken into custody are suspected of an array of crimes – from public endangerment, severe acts against public safety and irregular and incorrect building practices – which carry sentences ranging from two to 12 years in prison.

Nearly all pro-regime media have reported that those arrested include recently-resigned minister of construction, transportation and infrastructure Goran Vesic, recently-resigned director of Railway Infrastructure Jelena Tanaskovic and her predecessor, Nebojsa Surlan, as well as Vesic’s assistant for rail and intermodal transport Anita Dimoski.

However, Vesic has since taken to social media to deny he was arrested, but did confirm he had willingly accepted to be questioned by Novi Sad police, stating he has made himself “fully available to the investigation.”
