NEW YORK - Perhaps louder than ever before, the truth was heard at Tuesday's UN Security Council session on Kosovo-Metohija, even from countries that recognise the so-called Kosovo, says Serbian FM Marko Djuric.
Twenty-six years after the attack on our country and 17 years after the unilateral declaration of independence of the so-called Kosovo, it can be said that an awareness that what has happened in Kosovo-Metohija is a dangerous precedent is maturing in the international community, Djuric said in a statement after the session, at which the latest semi-annual report on the work of UNMIK, the UN mission in Kosovo-Metohija, was debated.
That is not the only reason why Pristina does not have too many reasons for joy, Djuric said, noting that the truth had also been heard from representatives of some permanent UNSC members such as France.
"We were able to hear directly a condemnation of unilateral moves and the January 15 raids of Serbian institutions by Pristina's forces. From the representative of Pakistan, a country that is a strong supporter of an independent 'Kosovo' and one of its first recognisers, we were able to hear a condemnation of attacks on the Serbian church and Serbian monasteries. From Great Britain, we were also able to hear reservations about some of Pristina's moves, even though, of course, some of those countries are primarily supporting Pristina," Djuric said.
He noted that Albin Kurti's envoy who had attended the session as a guest of UNMIK had even verbally attacked the mission and the UN itself at the UN headquarters.
"That has not brought and will not bring support or sympathy from the world organisation, nor will it seem convincing or credible to other states they (Pristina) are trying to win over and charm to get them to join their side. The situation is difficult and serious, and unargumented and unfounded accusations were also levelled against Serbia," Djuric said.
