WASHINGTON - Serbian FM Marko Djuric says the first Trump administration injected "fresh ideas" into the Belgrade-Pristina relationship and that the second administration represents a new opportunity to revitalise the process of mending it.
In an interview with the Politico.com portal, Djuric said helping resolve long-standing disputes in the Balkans would be "low-hanging fruit" for the US.
"I do hope that we will be able to attract attention from the new administration, from President Trump," Djuric said, adding that there was "a genuine appetite on behalf of the Serbian people to create a new type of relationship with the United States."
Djuric said Trump could inject new energy into the process and even make a "big gesture" to the Serbian people that Washington was a partner that could be trusted by visiting Serbia.
No president since Jimmy Carter has visited Belgrade, the portal noted.
"We would love to see another US president visit Belgrade in the coming period,” Djuric said, noting that "the type of reception that the sitting US president would get in Belgrade would be unparalleled in this part of the world."
