Djuric: Kurti once again demonstrated pattern of reckless accusations devoid of evidence

BELGRADE - Serbian FM Marko Djuric says Pristina's PM Albin Kurti has "once again demonstrated a pattern of reckless accusations devoid of any substance or evidence - further undermining fragile relations in the region."

In a post on X, Djuric was reacting to Kurti's press conference in the wake of a blast that damaged the Ibar-Lepenac canal in Kosovo-Metohija on Friday.

Djuric noted that, in a desperate and chaotic attempt to politically weaponise the unjustifiable attack on the canal, Kurti had "resorted to pointing fingers at everyone — from the long-defunct so-called 'North Brigades' and former Civil Protection units, to Serbia as a whole, and even former Kosovo* President Hashim Thaci."

"This baseless spectacle not only undermines the credibility of his leadership but also exposes the alarming inconsistency and lack of professionalism in his approach," Djuric noted.

"The fact remains: no evidence has been presented to substantiate his claims. The speed and certainty with which Mr Kurti placed blame on Serbia — within hours of the incident, before any investigation could possibly be conducted — reveal a premeditated attempt to manipulate the narrative. His strategy is transparent: to deflect attention from his own failures and escalate tensions in an already fragile environment. What we are witnessing is not just an irresponsible display of leadership but a political fiasco for Mr Kurti," Djuric added.

"This behavior is a clear embarrassment for any leader who claims to prioritise stability and dialogue. Instead of fostering trust, Mr Kurti's actions deepen divisions and further jeopardise the possibility of constructive engagement.

Serbia, on the other hand, remains committed to peace, stability, and truth. We categorically reject these baseless allegations and once again call for a thorough, impartial international investigation into the incident. We stand ready to help with the investigation through established MLA mechanisms, in cooperation with KFOR and EULEX.

The pursuit of truth should be guided by facts and evidence, not by political expediency or theatrical displays of blame.

We urge Mr Kurti to abandon his inflammatory rhetoric and focus on genuine dialogue and cooperation.

The people of the region deserve leaders who prioritise their well-being over political posturing. Serbia will continue to advocate for peace, stability, and the prosperity of all communities in the region.

The time has come for accountability — not just for those responsible for the attack, but also for those who recklessly exploit such events for political gain," Djuric concluded.

At the press conference, held on Sunday evening, Kurti said he was not familiar with the progress of the investigation into the incident as it was a weekend.
