Brnabic meets with Parlatino president

BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic met with Rolando Miguel Gonzalez Patricio, president of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino), in Belgrade on Thursday.

The parties agreed the level of parliamentary cooperation was good and expressed readiness to further strengthen institutional and economic relations through exchanges of visits and concrete joint activities.

Brnabic noted that Serbia maintained good and friendly relations with Latin American and Caribbean states and wanted to further advance those bilateral relations as well as cooperation within regional organisations in which it has observer status.

She also expressed gratitude for the principled position of the majority of Latin American and Caribbean states, which respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia and do not recongise the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, consistently adhering to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, an official statement said.

Brnabic thanked Cuba for confirming its participation in the specialised EXPO 2027, to be held in Belgrade.

She added that the 125th anniversary of Serbia-Cuba diplomatic relations would also be celebrated in 2027.

Patricio extended an invitation to Brnabic to a climate change forum to be held in Panama in June.

Brnabic and Patricio agreed the level of cooperation between the Serbian parliament and Parlatino had been good, especially since the signing of a 2015 protocol on cooperation, the first such protocol signed between the Serbian parliament and an institution in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
