BIA: Allegations in Amnesty International report absurd

BELGRADE - Serbia's Security Information Agency (BIA) on Monday dismissed as absurd allegations in an Amnesty International report that Serbian authorities were using software to unlawfully spy on activists and journalists.

In a statement, BIA added that it could only say that the report's trivial sensationalism pointed to the purpose of Amnesty International, which it noted was reflected in working for the interests of individual agencies and pressure groups.

"The Security Information Agency is operating exclusively in line with the laws of the Republic of Serbia - therefore, we are even unable to comment on the absurd allegations from their text, just like we also do not comment on other similar content," the BIA said in the statement, published on its website.

Earlier in the day, Amnesty International released a report claiming that Serbian authorities were allegedly using the BIA and police to unlawfully spy on journalists and on activists organising protests in the country.
