Vucic: Pressure from foreign services aimed at derailing Serbia has never been greater

BELGRADE - Internal pressure generated by various external services to derail Serbia from its path has never been greater, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday, noting that the "Serbian path" was the only good path for the country.

Vucic was speaking at a ceremony at the Security and Information Agency (BIA), which celebrates its day and its 22nd anniversary.

Vucic said he had never felt such internal pressure.

"That is because all players of various Western and Eastern services are under pressure to deliver the results the foreign services demand from them. For me, the pressure is almost unbearable," he said.

He noted that the foreign services wanted to derail Serbia to a direction that differed from the one set by Serbia and its people - a Serbian direction, a Serbian policy and "an equal distance to all."

"Only the Serbian path and what we have set for ourselves - our independence, our freedom-loving policy and what should bring progress to our country, and not some others, is the only good path for us," Vucic said.

"Today, we live in a time of great challenges," Vucic said, noting that he was proud of BIA's fight for Serbia's independence, statehood and integrity in difficult times, as well as of its fight "against all those who wanted to destroy our country."

Earlier, Vucic laid a wreath at a memorial to fallen BIA operatives.

The BIA also celebrates the 125th anniversary of the establishment of its first predecessor, the Department for Confidential Police Affairs.
