BELGRADE - Serbian PM and special presidential envoy Milos Vucevic said on Friday taking over the flag of the specialised international EXPO 2027 was a big day for Serbia and that he would on Monday present the flag to President Aleksandar Vucic for safekeeping at the Presidency of Serbia until the event's opening ceremony in 2027.
"The flag is a symbol of victory and proof of the enormous success we have achieved together," Vucevic said at a Sava Centre ceremony at which he received the flag from Dusan Borovcanin, director of the EXPO 2027 enterprise.
Vucevic added that Serbia would become the first Western Balkan country to host an EXPO.
"This is a great honour, as well as a great responsibility because we will bring new opportunities, new cooperation and, I believe, a better standard of living, to our country and all our citizens," Vucevic said.
He said EXPO 2027 will be a turning point in Serbia's overall development.
"Serbia has laid the foundations for connecting countries and the whole world. Serbia has never had such an honour and such a chance. EXPO is not just one of many events - it is an opportunity for peoples and countries around the world to showcase their most valuable cultural, economic and innovation potentials," Vucevic said.
