The next 48 hours will see the conclusion of the investigation into those claiming the authorities employed a sonic weapon against protestors at the March 15 massive university student rally, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic announced on March 17.
In a video statement broadcast on social media, Vucic insists that a sonic weapon was not on the streets that day since “no one saw it,” adding that the Army of Serbia does not own such a device. He did not, however, mention the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the possibility of it having such a weapon in its arsenal.
According to the president, the loud noise that disrupted the 15-minute silent commemoration of the victims of the Novi Sad Railway Station accident was caused by the Army firing an anti-drone rifle.
Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic has lambasted the extended Dean’s Collegium of the University of Belgrade for publicly denouncing the regime’s use of a sonic weapon. In her opinion, the University’s statement represents the dissemination of false news and unnecessarily disturbed the public.
