Gojkovic lays wreath to mark 106th anniversary of Vojvodina's unification with Serbia

NOVI SAD - The head of the Vojvodina provincial government, Maja Gojkovic, laid a wreath in Novi Sad on Monday to commemorate the 106th anniversary of Vojvodina's Unifiication with the Kingdom of Serbia in 1918.

She laid the wreath at a memorial plaque on the building where the Grand National Assembly of Serbs, Bunjevaks and other Slavs made the historic decision on the unification on November 25, 1918.

The decision was unanimously passed by all 757 deputies who travelled to Novi Sad from 211 municipalities in Backa, Banat and Baranja.

The Grand National Assembly of Srem unanimously passed an identical decision in Ruma on the day before.

Novi Sad Mayor Milan Djuric and Serbian government officials also laid a wreath at the plaque.

To mark the anniversary, a wreath was also laid at a monument to Jasa Tomic, a politician and journalist who, as a leader of Serbs in the former Austro-Hungary, read out the decision on the Unification at the Assembly on November 25, 1918.
