Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin stated on Jan. 13 that Serbia was proud to have friends like the BRICS group of emerging economies.

Shortly ahead of the New Year’s Eve celebrated Jan. 13 according to the Julian calendar, Vulin hosted a reception for representatives of BRICS countries in Serbia, saying that BRICS “brings hope that powerful nations can look after smaller ones” and that these countries regard Serbia as a friend.

"None of you have ever asked us to impose sanctions on anyone, to seize someone’s property, or to act against others. Most of you ask nothing from us, yet you offer more than we could dream of or request. In life, history, and nations, there are things that cannot be measured by money, such as being respected, understood, and supported, even when it is not easy for you," Vulin said.

The Serbian deputy PM underlined that for Serbia, BRICS is not just an economic partnership or opportunity but a connection based on shared traditional values such as “faith, nation, and family.” He added that Serbia aspires to “be part of the history that BRICS countries and their partners will create, contributing to a "brave new world."
