Vucevic: Serbia to sign contract on second super computer next week

KRAGUJEVAC - Serbia's caretaker PM Milos Vucevic visited the State Data Centre in Kragujevac, central Serbia, on Wednesday and announced a contract to acquire a second super computer for the centre would be signed next week.

Vucevic inspected progress of the construction of an innovation district within the Data Centre complex.

He noted that, historically, Kragujevac had been known as a defence industry hub in the 19th century and had later been involved in various forms of industrialisation in the country, becoming a hub of the national automotive industry.

"Today, it can be seen that Kragujevac is also becoming a hub of modern technology," he said.

"The already installed super computer is at the service of our users, universities, faculties, startups, just like we have a separate part of the Data Centre that is set aside for the security of our country - for our army, police and the Security and Information Agency," Vucevic said.

He said the ICT sector had the highest growth and exports of over 4 bln euros and wss employing more than 115,000 people.

"Next week we are to sign a contract on another super computer. No one in this part of Europe has that. It is not daydreaming on our part, it is reality. Serbia will have a second super computer. Our office has had a meeting with colleagues from Republika Srpska and we are close to offering State Data Centre services to them, too, and to everyone else in the region. Serbia is always open to cooperation," Vucevic said.
