Samarkand gears up to host first-ever EU-Central Asia Summit

A first-time summit in Samarkand brings together leaders from the EU and Central Asia to discuss strengthening cooperation, regional stability, and deeper economic and political ties.

Leaders from the European Union and five Central Asian nations — Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan — are meeting in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, for the first-ever high-level summit between the regions.

Hosted by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the event, beginning on April 4th, will bring together European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Discussions will focus on strengthening political and economic ties as both sides seek deeper cooperation in a shifting global landscape.
