Russian actor gets Golden Globe nod

Russian actor Yury Borisov has been nominated for an award at the 82nd Golden Globes for his role in the film ‘Anora’ by American director Sean Baker.

The nominations were announced on Monday. Borisov is a candidate for ‘best performance by an actor in a supporting role’. He will be competing against Denzel Washington for his role in Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator II’, and Edward Norton for his part in James Mangold’s ‘A Complete Unknown’.

Baker received two nominations for ‘Anora’ – for ‘best director’ and ‘best screenplay’.

The film tells the love story between Brooklyn sex worker Anora and the son of a Russian oligarch. When the two get married, the young man’s family sets out to do everything they can to break them apart.

Borisov, 32, plays the role of Igor, a taciturn henchman of the groom’s family.

The actor graduated from the Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theater School in 2013, but began his film acting career in 2010. He won Russia’s Golden Eagle Award in 2021 for best leading actor in ‘The Bull’.

This year’s Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 5 at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, California.
