Milos Vucevic (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Outgoing prime minister Milos Vucevic stated on April 7 that Djuro Macut, Serbia’s new prime minister-designate, is a person “capable of opening a social dialogue” because he is unburdened by certain past issues still weighing on the Vucevic cabinet and, therefore, can more easily negotiate with all members of the public.
Speaking for the RTS public service, Vucevic stated he will not be part of the new government but will instead “absolutely focus” on working for the Serbian Progressive Party, which he heads.
“I don’t think it’s logical and natural for me to immediately be part of a cabinet after serving as prime minister,” the outgoing PM said, adding that Macut “will have an easier time negotiating since he isn’t embittered” like Vucevic himself.
“There is no solution without dialogue, but dialogue requires willingness from both sides. I don’t know if it is possible to reach a consensus, but I do believe that it is possible to achieve negotiations and dialogue. Blockades and throwing eggs are not the solution,” Vucevic stated.
The politician expressed his belief that talks are possible and more than necessary, yet underlined that “Serbia doesn’t have much time to waste” since it “has to move forward.”
Vucevic’s decision to focus solely on party work was a choice he made himself, he said, and which he has already communicated to President Vucic.
