The Branimir Nestorovic-led We the Voice of the People said on March 27 that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had turned the country over to the EU and its corporations by giving consent to the Rio Tinto company to enter its Jadar project in a European Commission contest for choosing strategic projects outside of its borders.
The movement said that Vucic and the incumbent authorities were cooperating with the company even though the majority of Serbian citizens did not approve of the project. "The EU direly needs, literally to survive, strategic mineral resources which it lacks in its own territory and has therefore placed Serbia, which possesses critical mineral resources like lithium and boron minerals, in a EU document as a sacrificed territory and Serbia as a 'resource base' for the needs of Germany, France and other states belonging to this globalist creation," the movement said.
It added that Vucic had not acted in accordance with national interests when he was reaching an agreement with Rio Tinto and that he needed to be called to account for that. "We stress, on July 24 the EU clearly stated that neither Rio Tinto nor any other company could submit a project to the European Commission for 'strategic' status without previously receiving permission from the country where the project would be realized," it said.
Nestorovic's movement claims that if the European Commission places the Jadar project on its list of strategic projects outside the EU's border, Serbia would no longer have any prerogatives with regard to issuing a permit to Rio Tinto.
