Nearly 4,000 University Professors, Associates Back Student Demands

Around 4,000 university professors, associates and researchers in Serbia have supported student protesters and their demands in a public letter, a Jan. 9 statement said.

"Respected citizens of Serbia, we, the teachers, associates and researchers at universities across Serbia resolutely stand by our students in the joint struggle for a better society," the statement said.

The signatories condemned "every attempt by the authorities to intimidate our student colleagues, men and women, through the public disclosure of private data, the spreading of untruths about them, as well as the sending of officials and agents of the Security and Information Agency to their addresses and the addresses of their parents."

"In this way we again plead with the authorities to conscientiously and responsibly do their job," the professors said.
