The opposition refuses to participate in the proposed advisory referendum on confidence in President Aleksandar Vucic because it knows the outcome will not be in its favor, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, who is also the head of the ruling Socialist Party of Serbia, said on Jan. 15.

“This is a litmus test. You can see you’re dealing with politicians who crave power, but preferably without an election, because they can’t achieve favorable results at the ballot box,” Dacic told the RTS public service.

The minister went on to claim that the results of the elections and all public opinion polls contradict the recently published study by the non-governmental Center for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA), according to which Vucic is not supported by the majority of Serbia’s electorate.
