Is ChatGPT down? Users of OpenAI report global outage

While the artificial intelligence (AI) company has yet to acknowledge an outage, a huge spike in reported disruptions have been recorded.

Thousands of users of OpenAI's popular chatbot ChatGPT are reporting disruptions to their service, according to outage tracking site Downdetector.com.

OpenAI has yet to acknowledge any outage but users from around the world have been reporting issues for the last two days with a large spike in reports around 12.30pm CET on Thursday.

In the UK, over 5,600 reports had been made at the time of publication. In the United States, that number stood at over 4,300.

Users are reporting getting a "Bad gateway" error message when trying to access the site as well as the app.

Reports on Downdetector.com show users were having issues with either upload speeds or accessing ChatGPT on Wednesday too.

User @BeneddraNaim posted on social media platform X: "Hi @OpenAI, it seems there’s a general issue with photo uploads in your platform. Many users (including myself) have noticed that the feature isn’t working properly. Could you confirm if this is being looked into? Thanks for your help!"

Other users recorded having similar issues but it was limited to a peak of only 296 reports in the US on the outage tracking site at around 5pm CET.
