Djedovic Handanovic: Works to build Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline to begin by end-2025

BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic announced on Friday works to build a Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline would begin by the end of the year.

Djedovic Handanovic said this at a meeting with Transnafta AD Pancevo Acting Director General Natasa Lecic, with whom she discussed progress of the project.

"The works are scheduled to begin by the end of the year. Diversification of supplies is key for our energy security, in the gas and the oil sector alike, and a Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline will help long-term stability of supplies. Progress in preparation of design and technical documentation is evident, while expert teams from both countries communicate on a regular basis to monitor progress of the project on both sections and coordinate further activities," a statement released by Djedovic Handanovic's ministry quoted her as saying.

The statement also said a spatial plan of a special-purpose area had passed public scrutiny and was in the process of being adopted.

It also said a building permit and the completion of the entire documentation were due by end-2025, with all works slated to finish in 2027.
