BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's decision to name Djuro Macut as the candidate for PM-designate has been published in the Official Gazette and will be tabled to the national parliament.
Vucic made the decision following last week's consultations with representatives of electoral lists.
Explaining the decision, Vucic noted that Macut had the professional and personal qualities, the commitment and the expertise to perform the duty of PM.
He added that Macut had convinced him he was able to secure the election of a new government.
"The new PM will continue to implement programmes aimed at raising the citizens' standard of living, as well as projects in health care, education, science and technology, infrastructure development, environmental protection, energy, agriculture, tourism and other areas of importance for Serbia's future and its progress on the EU path while preserving and advancing further the traditionally good relations and cooperation with other friendly countries worldwide," Vucic wrote.
The task of carrying out the special EXPO 2027 in Belgrade is also ahead of the PM, which will, to a substantial extent, represent an investment foundation of the new government's term, he added.
Vucic also noted that a new government needed to be formed to help to calm tensions in society and to set economic recovery and eliminating the harmful economic consequences of blockades as the priority, as well as to address all problems facing the economy and the citizens.
"The government must clearly proclaim peace and development in society as its fundamental courses of action and make efforts to establish the required social dialogue among interested parties about open problems in society, which would create the preconditions to continue Serbia's strong economic development," Vucic added.
"Preservation of peace and stability, the territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia while consistently respecting international law, as well as regional cooperation and looking after vital interests of the Republic of Serbia, need to continue to represent the priorities in the Government's work," he noted.
Vucic met with Macut on Sunday evening, congratulating him on his appointment as PM-designate.
