RIGA - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic met with Latvian counterpart Daiga Mierina in Riga on Tuesday to discuss topics including Serbia's EU integration, and noted that opening a Serbian embassy in Riga for all Baltic states was strategically important.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Brnabic said she hoped the decision would be a strong signal and help advance the relations with Latvia in the future.
She said Latvia's support was extremely important on Serbia's EU path.
She said full EU membership was a strategic priority for Serbia and that the country had set a very ambitious goal to complete all reforms by end-2026.
Brnabic said her task as parliament speaker was to strengthen the relations between the Serbian and the European parliaments as well as between the Serbian parliament and the parliaments of individual EU member states.
She said Serbia had made a strategic decision to work more to boost relations and communication with Latvia and other Baltic states.
Noting that Serbia and Latvia had signed a MoU in 2022, Brnabic said the chambers of commerce of the two countries were due to do the same soon.
The parties also discussed boosting institutional cooperation between the two countries and Brnabic invited Mierina to visit Serbia.
In the National Assembly of Serbia, we have established a group of MPs for friendship with Baltic states, which speaks of the significance we attach to advancing the parliamentary dialogue with Latvia as well as with other Baltic states, Brnabic said.
